Storfjellet: the Honningsvåg harbour peak
A DNT Green marked trail from Honningsvåg to 275 metres. 6 km, 2 to 3 hours. Views over the harbour and out toward Nordkapp.
Storfjellet is the harbour peak directly above Honningsvåg. 275 metres, 6 km round trip, 2 to 3 hours, DNT Green. Marked trail from town. View across the harbour and out toward the Nordkapp plateau. Snow-free mid-June to September.
Storfjellet is the local hill above Honningsvåg. 275 metres, marked from the town itself, DNT Green. This is the hike for a Hurtigruten turnaround afternoon, or for the day you arrived on Magerøya and want to stretch your legs before the Nordkapp run tomorrow morning. Short, honest, and it gives you the harbour from above — which is a better photograph than the plateau globe.

The honest grade
DNT Green. Marked T-path, steady climb, no scrambling. Weather on the plateau is the variable — fog rolls in off the sea fast, and a 275-metre summit on Magerøya can be in cloud when the harbour is clear.
The route
Trailhead. Walk from central Honningsvåg to the signed path above the school. No parking needed — the trail starts within 10 minutes of most hotels in town.
Ascent. Marked T-path through scrub and open slope. 275 metres of gain in 45 to 60 minutes.
Summit. Open cairn with views over Honningsvåg harbour, the Hurtigruten dock, and out toward the Nordkapp plateau on a clear day. The town looks small from above.
Descent. Same route. 40 minutes.
Gear
- Hiking shoes or trainers in good weather; boots in shoulder season.
- Windproof layer.
- Water.
- Phone for photographs — the harbour view is the point.
Fjellvettreglene applied
Rule 2: adapt the trip to conditions. Storfjellet is the correct answer when weather has cancelled the Nordkapp plateau visit. Rule 3: check yr.no before starting — the summit can be in fog when the town is clear.
